A chronic illness can be life-changing, but it doesn’t mean life is over.

In “The Swan Song Can Wait,” soprano Mandy Brown will share her cancer journey through a moving performance about resilience, adaptation, and finding joy after a life-changing diagnosis. Joined by pianist Tatiana Loisha, Brown will blend poetry and music spanning a variety of styles and languages to explore the challenges of illness and the transformative power of creativity.

Organized into four chapters—Life Before, Chaos of Diagnosis, Adapting, and New Perspective—the program will trace Brown’s path with honesty, humor, and hope.  

Created to challenge assumptions about life and artistry after a serious diagnosis, this intimate recital will celebrate perseverance and the many ways music can sustain us through periods of profound change.

A passionate advocate for singers affected by breast cancer, Brown hopes her story will encourage others facing illness to embrace their creativity and discover a path forward.  

A Q&A with the artists will follow the performance.

This performance will take place at the historic George Peabody Music Library with In The Stacks concert series on October 8th, 2026 at 6:30pm. Mandy is delighted to be joining maestra Dr.Molly Donnelly and the Montgomery College Chorus as their soprano soloist for the Rutter Magnificat. This performance will take place on Friday, November 20th at 7:30pm at Christ Episcopal Church in Rockville, MD. This concert is free and open to the public.

Mandy Brown will be making her debut with Bay Atlantic Symphony under the direction of Jed Gaylin as a featured soloist for their Holiday Cheer concert. This is the perfect way to celebrate the winter holidays with friends and family. There are two separate dates and venues in New Jersey for the performances. Mandy is delighted to be reunited with the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra as their soloist for this fabulous holiday program under the baton of Maestra Victoria Gau. Mandy Brown and pianist, Patrick O'Donnell, will be joining together to present a world premiere of these new vocalises by composer, Steven Schwarz. The FMMC composer's forum concert will be Friday, February 19th at 12pm at Live! At 10th & G in Washington DC. This performance is free and open to the public.
