Breast Cancer Advocacy & Singer Resources
A breast cancer diagnosis does not mean it is the end of your time as a singer.
Mission
Breast Cancer Advocacy & Singer Resources aims to provide information for you and your voice teacher about how various breast cancer treatments will affect your body as a singer, helpful tips & resources as you go through and recover from treatments, and a community of support
with fellow singing breast cancer survivors & thrivers.
Quick Message From Mandy...
Fellow singing breasties, it is my deepest desire to share the information I wish I had, pertaining to breast cancer effects on singing, at the start of my cancer journey. As much as we define ourselves as a "singer", please remember that singing is what you do, not who you are. While singing enriches our lives, please focus on all that your care team tells you do to so that you are still here to live your life in every aspect, not just for your singing.
Everyone's cancer journey is unique to them and undergoing cancer treatments can seem overwhelming at the start of the process. Remember to breathe and take one day at a time. Your body and spirit undergo several changes in this process, so you will become an expert in the art of adaptability. You are not alone. Having community in this process is helpful beyond description, which is one of the primary goals for the creation of this website and the Breast Cancer Advocacy & Singer Resources Facebook Support Group.
By being open and connected with each other, we can help our fellow singing breasties and voice teachers navigate a singer's breast cancer journey. A breast cancer diagnosis doesn't mean we have to give up our love of singing; we learn to adapt and rebuild.
To our colleagues, I ask you to challenge your preconceived notions of what breast cancer looks like and sounds like, but more importantly what we, as cancer survivors and thrivers, are capable of.
Best wishes,
Mandy
